With just one film, Alberto Ammann moved from an obscure theatre student to one of Spain's most well-known performers in 2009. When Ammann gained a coveted spot on the roster of Caras Nuevas, a discovery program of Spanish talent agency Kuranda, he joined the ranks of Penelope Cruz, Jordi Molla, and Elena Anaya the previous year. The casting directors of Cell 211 were on the jury that year. Despite their efforts to cast a well-known actor in the film, they were unable to match Ammann, who went on to win a Goya (Spanish Academy Award) and a Spanish SAG Award for his compelling portrayal in Cell 211, which went on to become the year's most successful picture.
